Ideas and solutions
Idea: To host an international competition among developers and designers passionate about augmented reality and its application in the automotive industry in two phases: an online Challenge and onsite Hackathon. Solution: WayRay, the Swiss holographic AR technology company, announced a new product, True AR SDK, at CES 2018, one of the most significant tech events in the world. The WayRay Team created a brand identity for the product and developed web-pages for the True AR Challenge & Hackathon in English and Chinese. The Challenge was announced right after CES 2018. To enter the contest, users needed to submit their idea of an AR app interface for cars. The target audience of the competition — designers, developers, AR/VR enthusiasts around the world. The jury – leading tech, automotive, and education professionals from Porsche, Alibaba, ETH Zürich, etc. Over the four-months challenge, the WayRay team promoted the True AR Challenge and gained more than 1,7 million impressions. Used channels included: news media: 522 000 total views (for example, Finance.Yahoo: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/wayray-calls-developers-compete-first-134000194.html); developer communities: 720 000 views (for example, DevPost: https://true-ar-challenge.devpost.com/); designer-oriented platforms: 110 000 views (such as Dexigner.c: https://www.dexigner.com/news/30826); social media communities: 100 000 views (such as Women in VR on Facebook). All promotional materials have been conducted in-house by WayRay’s creative, marketing, and design teams without outsourcing. The online phase resulted in the top 30 finalists announced on June 30, 2018. The 30 best concepts have been granted $2,000, $3,000 or $5,000 and shortlisted for the onsite hackathon. The True AR Challenge will culminate at the onsite Hackathon in early 2019, where designers will team up with developers to create AR app prototypes using the True AR SDK and compete for their share of the $160,000 prize pool
