Task
What if a doctor-oncologist learns he has cancer? What should he say to his family and how can he find the courage to fight the disease? Andrei Pavlenko is changing online, he undergoes chemotherapy and receives first news about his tumor size. Nobody knows what will happen next. Our goal is to speak about the problems of oncology in Russia openly and reach more audiences through the story of one person.
Ideas and solutions
"The Life of Man" is a documentary project based on constant interaction with the audience and building a community around the history of Andrei Pavlenko – an oncologist who's realized he has cancer. Users trust the doctor because he shares his personal thoughts about oncology problems in Russia. Its' done through a podcast and TV series. Also, his treatment is constantly observed by a photographer who produces photo-stories every month. To really affect the treatment of cancer in Russia, Andrei Pavlenko is about to launch a charitable foundation. We help him to be in touch with those subscribers who need assistance. With the help of a Telegram bot and messages to our community in Vkontakte – we collect subscribers' stories. They will form the plot for the second season of the podcast and will be used to published as articles on the project's website. Our reporter communicates with subscribers, listens to their stories and tries to reach out to the hospitals where they weren't treated right. Also thanks to the project we managed to bring Andrei Pavlenko to the federal agenda. He appeared on leading TV channels, his interviews were published in dozens of media like Meduza or TASS. In addition, Andrei Pavlenko appeared on Ilya Varlamov's show on Youtube. The series about Pavlenko aren't only published on project's social media accounts, but also appear on cable TV channel "Doctor TV". Thanks to this project, Andrey's ideas will constantly find media support. The topic of oncology and NGOs that work in this sector is not the most viral thing. Yet, we believe that we will be able to reach more audience and teach them the basics of oncological literacy through various media formats
