During Barber King that runs within the Russian Barber Week we call together guys and gals who live their profession and instantly master their skills, no matter how experienced they are at the moment. Three key goals of the website: 1) to display the works and inform the interested people on the current stage of the contest, 2) to accept work submissions for the contest, 3) to help the experts with the voting process
Ideas and solutions
The story of barber-battles gained popularity all around the world. In the United States and Canada participation in such events means top-level acknowledgment of a barber’s skills. Basing on the results of these competition the industry forms it’s list of leading professionals. This Barber King battle, as well as the Russian Barber Week, is held for the 5th year in a row. During this period of time we received a wide range of feedback and defined the key goals. The first one was to make the sign up process as easy as possible (including sign up form submission from the smartphone). The hard thing is, a sign up form is not that simple - you have to fill out many fields and upload photos of your works. And, at the same time, we shall explain all steps of the sign up process, including some reminders that partially repeat the rules. The previous practice has shown that splitting the sign up process into many steps is stressy fot the participants and many people do not reach the final step. It was better to replace many fields with one honest feed that would give tips and hints at every stage. The second one was to formulate the rules. We added some categories and re-wrote the rules in plain language. The third one was to re-invert the private section for voting - we totally modified it using the popular mechanics of swiping. To gain access to the private section, you should be a cool barber. And a useful lifehack to add. Through the website of Barber King many people across Russia have found a great barber for themselves. Almost everyone complains about their haircuts for 300 rubles and that "there's no proper barber to visit". And what did you expect? Beauty demands sacrifice, and we've brought the most brave ones together
